Tuna and Mahi and Marlin….Oh My!!

Tuna and Mahi and Marlin….Oh My!!

Another awesome day of offshore charter fishing for the Fish in OC fleet today!  The inshore lumps were productive for Bluefin Tuna and Mahi, the Poor Man’s Canyon was productive for Yellowfin Tuna, White Marlin and Mahi and the Washington Canyon was productive for Bigeye Tuna once again.  It doesn’t get much better than this!

Captain Luke Blume and mate John Griffith on the White Lightning out of Sunset Marina had a great trip to the Bigeye hole in the Washington Canyon last night.  They returned at 11PM and unloaded their fish this morning at Sunset Marina’s scale to find that their Bigeyes weighed 105 and 251 pounds.

Last night was a little more exciting than the past few nights in the Bigeye hole.  There are so many fish being caught that the sharks showed up to try and make an easy meal out of fish that are fighting for their lives and can be more easily chomped on.  Captain Luke reported that most Bigeye that were hooked last night showed some sign of being either bitten or chased by a shark.

He saw sharks follow both of his fish all the way to the transom of the boat and heard other Captains that had the same problem.  Captain Luke also reported that the sharks were brown sharks, most likely Dusky Sharks or White Tips.  Here is the crew of the White Lightning with their awesome catch!

The Wrecker with Captain Jeremy Blunt and mate Brian Behe also caught a nice Bigeye today.  Here is the crew of the Wrecker with their 185 pound “eyeball”.

The Boss Hogg out of Sunset Marina had a terrific day trolling tuna magnets in the Poor Man’s Canyon today in 72 degree water.  Captain Brian Porter put his crew on seven nice Tuna, four Mahi and two White Marlin releases.

Captain Joe Drosey on board Rhonda’s Osprey had another good day fishing the lumps inshore of the canyons today.  Captain Joe and crew had two Bluefin and two Mahi for his happy anglers.

Captain Mark Hoos on board the Marli reports that Adam Pattisall and his crew from BelAir Maryland had a great day on the charter boat MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and Mate Mark Stephens. They caught 19 Tunas (2 Bluefins, 5 Yellowfins & released 12 additional) 2 Mahi and a White Marlin (Adams 1st) at the Hotdog.
