We had another fishable day today although it was a slightly rough one. The tuna fishing is becoming more and more hit or miss, but there are still a lot of mahi out there in the canyons. If you are looking to get out one last time to catch some meat for this winter, now is the time to do it.
I got a report from Austin Ensor this afternoon after returning from his second offshore trip in a row. Austin reported that the sea conditions were pretty “snotty” today. So much in fact that they were taking some big waves on the way home and were unable to eat their Pringles.
Austin also reported tough fishing for tuna. He did stick a gaff in an estimated 80 pound yellowfin only to see it swim away with his gaff and his pride. They ended the day with 45 mahi which is still pretty good.
The Boss Hogg also reported tough fishing for tunas today but was able to catch some mahi as well. The “Hogg” had some nice fished mixed in there and filled a couple of wheel barrows at Sunset Marina.
Captain Mark Hoos on Marli also out of Sunset Marina reported one large yellowfin tuna and a limit of 60 mahi.
