The ocean started off pretty rough this morning, but had calmed down nicely by the afternoon. Overall it was a slow day, probably because the ocean is really crowded this weekend, but some boats had some decent luck and there was some action at Sunset Marina for day 2 of the Ocean City Marlin Club Canyon Kick-Off.
Captain Jeremy Blunt on board the Wrecker out of The Ocean City Fishing Center had a good day out in the ocean today. Captain Jeremy rolled the dice on a spot he hasn’t fished in years at the tip of the Washington Canyon and was rewarded with seven nice yellowfin tuna, a bluefin tuna and seven mahi. All of the fish were caught on trolled ballyhoo and spreader bars.

Rhonda’s Osprey out of Sunset Marina with Captain Joe Drosey had his customers on some meat today. Rhonda’s Osprey ended up with a yellowfin tuna and some nice gaffer mahi.

I got a good fishing report from Wes Pollitt from the Morning Star with Captain Monty Hawkins. Our Ocean City Fishing Center party boat had good sea bass fishing with several fish over three pounds, some keeper flounder with one 24 1/2″ fish that weighed 5 pounds 14 ounces, and another bluefin tuna from the troll. The Morning Star will regularly throw out some troll baits as they move from spot to spot and today they were rewarded with a nice 42″ bluefin that weighed 45 pounds. Ted Dahl was the lucky angler on the bluefin, but everyone on board that wanted tuna got some.

Bear from the Oceanic Pier sent in a couple of great shots today. Bob from Bowie, MD (my hometown) caught two really nice keeper flounder from the pier this morning on live minnows. Bear also says that the OC Sharkin Team was at it again on the beach around 130th street. They caught and released a nice ray and a HUGE 9′ sand tiger shark.

Day two of the Ocean City Marlin Club’s Canyon Kick-Off Tournament wasn’t quite as busy as yesterday, but there were some good fish caught and some moving on the leader board. Thanks again to Amanda from the OCMC for the standings and pics.
