What A Difference A Day Makes

It was a rough day offshore yesterday, but fishing at the Hot Dog was…..well, HOT!  Restless Lady and Jade II both had 15 yellowfin, Marli had seven yellowfin and as you’ll see below, Boss Hogg and Wrecker had awesome days too.  Today, not so much.  It’s not rare to have the fish bite well in a spot one day and not the next, it just sucks when you’re trip was today and you read yesterday’s report.  That however, is fishing.

During yesterday’s hot bite at the Hot Dog the Boss Hogg with Captain Charlie Vanderbeck had a stellar day putting 13 big yellowfin on the dock at Sunset Marina.

Yesterday Captain Jeremy Blunt of the Wrecker took advantage of the good fishing and put his anglers on eight nice yellowfin tuna.

The yellowfin bite at the lumps definitely slowed down for today’s fishing, but there were still some nice fish caught.  The crew of Pumpin’ Hard put a couple of nice yellowfin on the dock for their junior angler.

My buddy Todd Martinek had his crew on board the My Cin with Captain Dave Black and landed this fat yellowfin tuna while chunking the Hot Dog.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the party boat Morning Star had the Thill family from Pittsburgh, PA on board yesterday for a good day of sea bassing and even a peanut mahi for dinner.

Here’s the fishing report from Captain Victor Bunting of the Ocean Princess from this week.   “We’ve seen good, fair, and downright slow fishing over the last week. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it and I can’t say that one trip is any better than the other. When the conditions are right, and we are able to drift, it seems we have the best luck. Seabass has been the main catch recently, along with a few triggerfish and flounder. One night last week we had some luck catching kingfish and trout. We even managed to land one nice mahi this week. One thing about fishing in the ocean, you never know what your going to catch!”

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters fished the inlet today with sand fleas and put his anglers on three black drum including this fish.

Richie Kioske from Edwardsville, PA caught this 20″, 3 lb. 3 .oz keeper flounder on the Tortuga with Captain Drew Zerbe this afternoon.  The fish was this afternoon’s pool winner and is a new 3rd place Derby fish for the Tortuga!  Richie used a shiner and squid combo and caught the fish in Sinepuxent Bay.  Mates were Serge Garder and Matt Harris.
