There was a pretty awesome white marlin bite in the Lindenkohl Canyon yesterday and today. Boats got word of the good fishing yesterday and headed to the Lindenkohl today. It’s about 100 miles one-way, but it sounds like it was worth the trip. Dave Messick headed over to Sunset Marina this evening to see what was up and reported that a couple of boats had white marlin flags filling the rigger…..one boat had 20 flags flying! This is a welcome sign with the Ocean City Marlin Club’s Heels and Reels ladies tournament this weekend and the 43rd Annual White Marlin Open starting Monday.
Check out the shot of Sunset Marina’s C-Dock from Brett Hill.
Inshore there was some good flounder fishing. The water was surprisingly clean with all the rain we’ve had the past few days. Usually the runoff after heavy rains will dirty up the bay, but that hasn’t been the case much this summer. Ayrton Pryor and Jacob Lewis caught four keepers today between 16″ and 19″ on white Gulp tipped jig heads in the Thorofare.
My buddy John Wittmyer was out with Ocean City fishing legend Big Bird Cropper and caught a couple of keepers on Bird’s Roy Rigs.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing had a nice family trip on the Bad Influence today. Captain Jeff put his young anglers on some bluefish and some really good flounder action. The flounder were of the throwback variety, but bending the rod for some youngsters is what it’s all about.
