White Marlin, Bluefins, Flounder and More

White Marlin, Bluefins, Flounder and More

Captain Willie Zimmerman and the crew of RoShamBo had a fantastic day in the canyons with six white marlin releases and a huge pile of mahi.

Captain Mike Burt and the crew of the Pumpin’ Hard had a nice day with two white marlin releases.

Anglers fishing on board Chasin’ Tides Charters have enjoyed some good fishing with flounder, bluefish and mahi inshore and bluefin tuna on the lumps.

Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run Charters show this group a good time with a bluefin tuna and some keeper Flounder.

angler fishing with Captain Jason Mumford aboard lucky brake charters had some good trips today that included keeper flounder, tautog and sheepshead.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler put his folks on some good fishing today with plenty of Seabass and Flounder.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star saw really good mahi fishing on today’s trip.

Mahi – best in a long time – 7/28/26

Ocean looked a bit more angry – mildly more angry – than anticipated as we struck a course offshore on this morning’s mahi trip. Sure seems like a lot of ‘play’ in forecasts this summer. By 8AM, however, her countenance had mellowed and my confidence of the day’s fishing ahead restored.

Avery & Asher put today’s reef unit on the bottom. It joined perhaps a dozen others at this relatively new location (210 reef blocks and 3 pyramids.) In the post I’ve included the fish I marked on my sounder as we deployed the reef unit. I fear we must have squished some sea bass as it found seafloor. Built on sand, it will require ‘nourishing’ (what reef builders call continued addition of substrate) to remain in play as decades go by. Hope someone takes up the banner.

Mahi began with a fizzle.
All Stop/No Go.
Was not until my tenth spot that we found them willing.
And then?
Mahi Mayhem.
Suddenly mate Joe got busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest..
Asher used his reef builder’s karma to take high hook & the pool.
Best day in two years I think.
Nothing to do but try to catch even better tomorrow. Forecast(FWIW!) is great. Have a few spots open Wed – none Thurs.
Fri/Sat back to cbass/fluke.
Cheers,
Monty
