White Marlin Offshore and Flounder Inside

White Marlin Offshore and Flounder Inside

Except for some looming clouds it was yet another beautiful day in Ocean City and offshore in the canyons.  The tuna fishing out in the deep was pretty tough today from what I hear, but there were some white marlin caught in the canyons and there are more and more showing up as the summer moves along.

Inshore fishing was good again today with good numbers of keeper flounder being boxed in the back bay from the east channel to down behind Assateague Island.  Captain John Prather of the Ocean City Guide Service had a nice trip this morning that included some small sharks, a cow nosed sting ray and some bluefish.  This afternoon Captain John sent me a text that he had just boxed a slob and he was right.  This afternoon’s trip had four keepers end up in the cooler including that slob that was 24.5″ long and weighed an even 5 pounds.

The Fin City crew on the Less Bills put four keepers in the box this morning too.  G from Fin City, Chris Brackens from West Ocean City and Mitch Pruitt from Snow Hill caught the fish on white Gulp tipped with monster minnows in the east channel on the beginning of the incoming tide.

Anglers on this afternoons trip aboard the Tortuga with Captain Drew Zerbe had a nice trip with four keepers ending up in the box.

The Happy Hooker out of the Talbot Street Pier had two keepers on its first drift on this afternoon’s 2:00 PM trip.

Big Bird Cropper and his young buddy Noah had a good day in the bay with five throwback flounder, eight released rockfish and a nice keeper bluefish and trout.

I got to join my good friend David Wells for some time on the water this morning and it was absolutely gorgeous.  Dave smoked me on the fishing putting two keepers of 17″ and 17 1/2″ on ice to my one throwback.

The tunas may not have bit well today, but they bit well on an overnighter for the crew of the Restless Lady II out of the Talbot Street Pier.  Captain Todd Kurtz put Jim Duncan’s family on 10 nice yellowfin on spreader bars and ballyhoo.

Congrats to Rob Howry and his crew catching four white marlin on the charter boat MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and mates Michael Butler and Chase Neiderer.  A special congrats goes to Greg Shaub and Steve Shepos on their very first white marlin.  The guys carried tradition and jumped in the water on returning to the marina.

Captain Jeremy Blunt of the Wrecker reported catching their first and second white marlin of the season today and though they marked some good tunas, they wouldn’t eat in the flat calm conditions.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing went out of state for some shooting today and was rewarded with some really nice fishing.  Captain Marc put his shooters on some cow nosed rays and a couple of southern rays of 73 and 91 pounds.
