Wrecking Some Sea Bass and Flounder

Wrecking Some Sea Bass and Flounder

The unseasonably warm conditions stuck around today, but we did have some cloud cover and breezy conditions inshore this afternoon.  I got out with my wife Kristen for some flounder fishing for a few hours and she smoked me like a cheap cigar.  We caught a bunch of throwback flounder north and south of the route 50 bridge on Gulp and minnows with no keepers and she outfished me 12 to 5.  I even fished two rods for a while and she still put it to me.  She’ll read this to correct my mistakes so she can see…..You won babe!

The party boat fleet has had a couple of really nice days of fishing since being back on the water after a month long sea bass closure.  Sea bass fishing has been good, but I don’t know if anyone expected the flounder fishing to be so good right now.  Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler was fishing ocean structure again today and had several keeper sea bass caught and a bunch of big flounder up to 4.5 pounds.

The Ocean Princess with Captain Victor Bunting has had his share of good fishing the past few days too.  Captain Victor has put his anglers on keeper sea bass and triggerfish and some really nice keeper flounder.

Captain Brad McCabe of Bay Time Charters was out on the bay this afternoon getting in on the hot flounder bite.  Captain Brad found this 19 1/2″ keeper up in the Thorofare getting out of the wind.

I got a Facebook submission from my buddy Kevin Twilley with this shot of a LOAD of fish.  Kevin’s crew had an insane day of bottom fishing putting 120 sea bass, 32 flounder and 5 triggerfish.  Kevin said that seven of the flounder were over 6 pounds each.

My buddy Dale Timmons fished the Virginia surf over the weekend and had a great time with the puppy drum.  Dale even got a two for one double header on cut bluefish strips.
