Yes, The Tuna Are Still Here

Yes, The Tuna Are Still Here

It was a little overcast today at times, but the calm conditions continued so anglers were out taking advantage of really good conditions.  The inshore and offshore fishing grounds weren’t as crowded today as they are on the weekend either so tuna fishing picked up right where it left off late last week.

There is no denying that when its crowded offshore that the tuna respond by effectively shutting down making catching them pretty tough.  Usually the boats that do find them have one or two knock downs of several fish and have to take advantage of it.  When there are less boats it can be really, really good.  Today was another day with less boats and the offshore charter fleet was rewarded with some really good fishing once again.  The Boss Hogg with Captain Corey Kennington and mates Buck Tshudy and Marshall Freng put their crew on 18 yellowfin tuna and two white marlin releases.  OC Councilman Matt James was able to catch his first white marlin on the trip.

Glen Hofacker and his crew from Salem, NJ had a busy day with Captain Mark Hoos and mates Michael Butler and Chase Neiderer on the Charter Boat MARLI.  They caught a limit of 18 big yellowfin tuna during a great bite today.

Under the watchful eye of his better half Jennifer from the Ocean City Fishing Center, Captain Jeremy Blunt and the crew of the Wrecker put seven nice yellowfin tuna on the dock.

On Father’s Day this past weekend Capt. Chris Phillips and anglers Luke Phillips, Sheila Phillips, Marc Phillips, Hunter Phillips and Brian Wisniewski caught two bigeye tuna weighing in at a whopping 155 and 198 pounds while fishing on the Cold Rolled.  One of the fish ate a spreader bar and the other a ballyhoo just south of the Baltimore Canyon.

Captain Chris Little and the crew of Talkin’ Trash had an awesome day of tuna fishing today as well.  The crew put 15 yellowfin tuna in the box with fish as big as 92 pounds.

Back bay anglers had some good fishing in the south bay and in the east channel again today.  Flounder were snapping on both tides as shown here by the crew of Ocean City Guide Service with Captain John Prather.  This group put five keepers in the box while fishing the south bay.

8-year-old James Bergin from Gettysburg, PA was fishing with Captain Dave Caffrey on board his On The Run when he landed these two flounder of 18″ and 20″.

The Tortuga with Captain Drew Zerbe at the helm put these anglers on a couple of keeper flounder from this morning’s trip on the outgoing tide.

My buddy Curt Presnell saw yesterday’s fishing report and decided to take the advice of me and our inshore guys and try it himself this morning.  Curt was rewarded with calm conditions, no boat traffic and a limit of four keeper flounder between 17″ and 22″ while drifting Gulp baits.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing had trips yesterday, last night and today and put his shooters on good action for cow nosed and southern rays on every one of them.
