Fishing was absolutely crazy today….crazy good! The offshore boats were in the canyons absolutely smoking the tuna and the inshore boats were all over the flounder and sea bass. We even had sea bass, flounder and tuna caught on the same boat!
I got a crazy report from Wes Pollitt of the Morning Star with Captain Monty Hawkins today. Wes reported a steady pick of sea bass, some good flounder fishing, and oh…..three bluefin tuna!! The Morning Star has been doing some trolling on the way out, on the way home, and in between spots and catching some false albacore, but today they got bites from bluefin tuna. The fish were in the 40-50 pound range and a more than welcome surprise for our friends that are usually all about the bottom fish.
For the fleet that normally does the trolling for tuna the fishing was even better offshore in the canyons. John Picard and his crew from Woodbridge, Virginia had a great day on the charter boat MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and mate Mark Stephens. They boxed 23 yellowfin tuna, pulled off a large bigeye tuna after a 20 minute battle and released over 2 dozen undersized yellowfin tuna.
Captain Brian Porter on board Boss Hogg out of Sunset Marina had a great day with the Taylor crew putting them on 20 yellowfin tuna and 2 gaffer mahi.
The Wrecker with Captain Jeremy Blunt out of the Ocean City Fishing Center caught 29 yellowfin tuna, boxing 14 of them and two nice mahi.
Rhonda’s Osprey with Captain Joe Drosey fishing out of Sunset Marina had 12 yellowfin and an estimate 550 pound blue marlin release.
Captain Luke Blume on the C Boys out of Sunset Marina had a white marlin release, seven mahi, nine keeper yellowfin and 15 released yellowfin.
Captain Wayne Bradford on board Muff Diver out of the Ocean City Fishing Center reported Ed Fitz and his crew had 30 released yellowfin tuna, 13 keeper yellowfin tuna, two mahi and a mako shark on today’s trip.
Paul Lebling from Spring Mix II reported that Captain Steve Selander and mates Captain Chris Watkowski and Ayrton Pryor put their crew on a white marlin release and five yellowfin tuna from between the Poor Man’s and Baltimore Canyons.
Austin Ensor fishing his first day in the MSSA Tuna-Ment had an incredible day of fishing. Austin and his crew on Primary Search caught 30 yellowfin tuna and boxed their limit of 12 nice fish.
Captain Bob Borys Sr. and mate Bob Borys Jr. on the Playin’ Catch put their crew of Bill Aubry, Jody Hook and Rochelle Grub on some good fishing when they went 10 for 10 on yellowfin tuna bites, caught a nice gaffer mahi and jumped off a white marlin.
On the inshore front Captain Chris Mizurak on board the Angler reported good seabassin’ today with several nice fish coming over the rail.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing fished the Bad Influence today and put his crew on some great fun. They had good action with flounder and even caught a couple of small trout.
Paul Reyburn of JPR Rods did a little flounder fishing in the back bay this afternoon and had some luck with the flounder catching he and his wife some dinner.
