Today was my first day back from an awesome Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA and after sleeping in until 10 it was right back to it prepping for the OC Boat Show. The OC Boat Show is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday February 16-19 at the OC Convention Center and it should be an awesome time. I’ll be doing a seminar on Saturday at 1 PM where we’re giving away door prizes including a 2.5 HP motor. I hope to see you there!
It was a nice, calm day on the ocean and tautog fishermen took full advantage of it. Captain Chase Eberle of Chasin’ Tides Charters had a nice day with some good fish with the largest being 19.5 pounds that was caught on a jig.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had an ok day on the rip today.
Got underway into ‘calm before the storm’ conditions – ocean was flat. Just after ‘grayrise’–errr, lighter shades of gray to our east as an invisible sun broke the horizon; Rusty gave 24 reef blocks a push atop Al Berger’s Reef. We headed on off. No wind, light current; wasn’t at all sure I’d even need an anchor. Though we couldn’t drift owing slightly too much current; did spend a good part of the AM on one anchor. Can only do that on a rare day in this fishery. By & by there was just enough wind to give sea surface the least texture and enough current to require a bit of lead; by lunch we were on double anchors. Not a fabulous bite this day.Did nick a few. Threw back more still. After a mid-day lull, the bite returned to tepid at best. Tim put the pool winner in theboat. Everything else went back, including Ken’s good sized female..Try again soon.
