Good Fishing in the Ocean

Good Fishing in the Ocean

With temps in the mid 60s this morning in and around OC it felt more like late September than it did late August…..and I didn’t hear any complaining.  We had a pretty stiff breeze to contend with this morning also, but by the time this afternoon rolled around it had laid right out and left a beautiful day.  There was some good fishing too as the party boat fleet found some sea bass and flounder, and the offshore fleet found some more white marlins.

The Boss Hogg with Captain Alex Beane and crew had a nice day with eight white marlin releases and a nice catch of mahi.

Anglers fishing on board the Ocean Princess had a great time with some very good catches of sea bass and some flounder mixed in.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had to contend with a sporty ride out today, but by the end of the day it was nice and there were sea bass in coolers.

Nothing too terrbly pretty about this day’s ride off. Bit saucy, for sure. Weatherman promised it would pipe down after a while though
..and, for once, spoke truth.
Came real nice by day’s end. Tomorrow looks to be a repeat. Lots of room..
Mike, Joan and Misty did the deed on our reef blocks and pyramid today. Deployed em at new reef – makes 52 plus one pyramid.
Have to start somewhere.
And for mahi? Somewhere was further off.
Where I anticipated today’s 75.4 degree nearshore water would warm even further going off. Instead it grew a bit chillier. Just a degree, but warmer would have been better.
Tried the mahi at a few spots before dropping to bottom for sea bass. Was not the epic bite of yesterday’s start, but we did box some.
Tried the mahi a few more spots. Jigmaster Tom spies a fine bull on my downwind side while sea bassing. We were unable to coax him into biting – gave credence though, all the credence we’d have for today.
Fortunately sea bass got hungry. Late morning a different schedule than yesterday – worked.
Don won the pool and boxed a near-limit. Everyone – even folks who seemed to have never picked up a rod before – caught well.
By the time we started for home today the ocean had become pleasant. To cap the day off we came upon an active pod of bottlenose dolphin that rode the bow a good ways.. Doesn’t get old for me.
Cheers,
Monty
