Fish Fillets for Mother’s Day

Fish Fillets for Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms out there!!  It was a beautiful day to spend with your family and/or go fishing!

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters had Captain Jon Young, Captain Chris Miller and Captain Steve Keifer on board today and treated them to four nice keeper flounder from the Thorofare.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported beautiful conditions today with a slow start to fishing, but by afternoon there were loads of sea bass on board and even a couple of flounder.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star was back in action today as well and his anglers were happy to see it

With fuel at $6.35 and an extremely light rail, I ambled on off wondering how on earth to make this work. With reef to build and fish to be caught, we pressed on.
Chuck and Jake did the deed on 24 reef blocks and a pyramid before we pushed offshore further.
Found sea bass far less the participants in today’s action. Near where they’d bit fairly well Friday? Oyyyy.. We were just nicking a few here and there before heading off still further.
Did I mention fuel was at $6.35?
Jayminy!
(..or whatever Samuel L Jackson would say.)
Was worth it. Haven’t had Shelly’s fried cbass in many moons.
More than one way to celebrate Mother’s Day.
With Capt Mike at 12, Jake in double digits, & low man at 8, everyone aboard could stink a pan or enjoy sashimi. Ray won the (very small) fish pool.
Though sea water was 54 degrees where we fished, I came upon some 59 degree water on the way in. Saw two 2026 firsts in it – a large mola-mola and small loggerhead sea turtle.
Cmon Summer!
Have CG inspection soon. All kinds of catching up to do for that. Will be as perfect as I can make her.
Cheers,
Monty

Ashley Mullen caught this 16.25″ keeper flounder on a pink Deadly Double today.

Bryce Brennan, age 8, caught a 19.5 inch flounder near the Route 50 bridge on a Bracer 2 200 spinning reel combo using a two jig flounder rig made by the late John Hord.

Rick Stutzer and Josh Pippen had keeper tautog of 16.5″ and 17″ today using shrimp on Deadly Tackle bottom / tog jigs.
