When I say calm before the storm, I don’t mean the weather….today was exactly the opposite. It was rough one in the ocean today. NE winds were blowing 20+ knots in the bay behind Assateague Island when I was back there so the ocean had to be angry. It was rough enough that some party boats cancelled their ocean going trips. It was windy inshore as well today, but the water was clean and there were some flounder to be caught if you tried hard enough.
Captain John Prather on the Ocean City Guide Service was out on the bay today. I saw Captain John briefly behind Assateague Island (where I didn’t even get a bite). This morning he put some fly fishermen on some cool light tackle action for stripers, and recently he has been having plenty of luck putting bow fishermen on some great shooting.
The Bad Influence with Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing was on the bay as well today. Captain Jeff put a couple of families on some throwback flounder action in the bay behind Assateague. OC Guide Service and Pitboss Fishing are catching their flounder on jig heads tipped with white Gulp 4″ swimming mullet.
Bear from the Oceanic Pier submitted some photos of some keeper flounder and a big bluefish that he saw at the pier. Brian and Bradley from PA both caught 17″ keeper flounder from the pier this morning on live minnows and John caught a huge 36″ bluefish from the route 50 bridge last night on a Zoom bait.
Seth Young sent in a Facebook submission of his fishing trip to the route 50 bridge today. Seth and Mitch Young caught several throwback flounder on jig heads with white Gulp from the bridge today. Most of the fish were only a foot long….literally.
