We’ve definitely had some good weather this fall, we’ve even had some excellent weather this fall….today was downright UNBELIEVABLE! Sunny skies all day, little to no wind and I had 81 degrees on my truck display at one point. It’s going to change after tonight, but I certainly enjoyed it while it lasted. It was one of the nicest days that I can remember in any November.
Weather like this will have people out in full force and making all kinds of excuses to get out on the water to drop a line on some of this awesome fishing that we’ve got going on. I wonder how many people called in to work with “digestive issues” today. This is my job, so I’m spoiled…..and I’ll be the first to admit it.
The inshore fishing is spectacular right now. We’ve still got flounder being caught, tautog fishing is getting better as the water cools down, bluefish are snapping in and around the inlet, there are puppy drum around the inlet and Oceanic Pier, we’re seeing a great number of the elusive speckled trout and rockfish numbers are climbing every day. The two hot spots right now for schoolie sized rockfish are the route 50 and route 90 bridges. There are some fish at the jetty as well, but the bridges seem to be holding more and they are way easier to fish if you’re not used to the jetty. Anglers are having their best luck with bucktail type rigs with Gulp baits or twister tails and Rapala type lures, especially those that look like a bunker. If you can get ahold of the highly coveted Roy Rig you’re probably going to smash them. Most of the fish are non-keeper size, but there are a few keepers mixed in. That ratio will continue to rise as the water cools down and more fish migrate this direction.
Blake Gunther posted to the Ocean City Fishing Community page on Facebook with some awesome shots this evening. Blake says he had a beautiful day under the bridge and lost count at 20 rockfish.
Big Bird Cropper, inventor of the world famous Roy Rig has been having plenty of luck with the rock at the route 50 bridge lately. Bird caught this beautiful 22″ fatty at route 50 yesterday.
There are some nice specs (speckled trout) around right now as well. Eric Thompson caught this nice spec yesterday.
The action at the Oceanic Pier on the inlet has been pretty awesome lately. Bear submitted photos of some nice catches from this week. Randy caught a slob sheepshead that weighed 12 pounds from the route 50 bridge this morning on the pier’s lively sand fleas and Chris Meister caught a nice 20″ puppy drum over the weekend.
