A Beautiful Ocean with Flounder, Sea Bass, Bluelines and Goldens

A Beautiful Ocean with Flounder, Sea Bass, Bluelines and Goldens

It was an absolutely beautiful day today with light winds, sunny skies and very nice temperatures.  Tomorrow looks to be some more of the same and then we’ve got some heat moving in.  It’s still going to be ok to get on the bay and ocean through the weekend.

The Ocean Princess with Captain Victor Bunting was out deep dropping the edge of the canyons today and they had a great day for their customers putting them on golden and blueline tilefish and some black belly rosefish.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler had the boat out in the deep for their Wednesday tilefishing trip and they had a very good time of it too.  There were several nice blueline tilefish that came aboard and some golden tilefish as well.

Joyce Andrews used a live spot behind Assateague Island to land this very nice 23.5″ keeper flounder.

Harmony landed this nice keeper flounder last evening throwing Roy Rigs at the Route 50 bridge.

Camden Meredith caught this 17″ weakfish while fishing Homer Gudelsky Park today.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had a nice day at sea today with plenty of knothead sea bass and some nice flounder mixed in

Yesterday’s stiff northerly breeze lasted into mid afternoon before falling out nicely as forecasted. This morning they dropped today’s wind speed forecasts further still. That’s always a welcome development.
A few new clients and several regulars made a light rail today. Shelly saw the roster and decided to jump on too.
Nice day.
Bernie and Doc did the deed on today’s block drop; sent them loose down to a barge’s deck where they’ll help with sea whip colonization and serve as private condos for sea bass.
As I anchored the second time I could see I had some dedicated flounder effort aboard. I’m sea bass fishing but fluke frequently use the same reefs. Fellow on the bow put two nice ones in the boat, Shelly another, and then we goose egged on flounder all the rest of the day. Not one more after our second spot.
Never did find a robust school of hungry sea bass; some good numbers on my screens, but just picked away at em. Slam full of sand eels; I figure they were “one more piece of pumpkin pie” after Thanksgiving full.
For limits today I had Holly and
..well, Holly.
Would that it were so, but I don’t think chivalry was in play. Holly was holding a “How To” clinic on the stern using Gulp sand eel and boat bait.
Jigmaster Tom at least crossed into double digit territory while Warren was but one away.
Was a truly enjoyable day at sea.
Cheers,
Monty
