A Little Bit Better Sea Bass Fishing

A Little Bit Better Sea Bass Fishing

Check out the tackle available at Sunset Provisions at Sunset Marina!

Sea bass season hasn’t exactly started off red hot this season, but hopefully things are looking up.  The season opened on Monday, May 15 to decent fishing, but lots of folks expected it to be way better since there are a bunch of fish out there.  Things seemed to pick up a little today for some so hopefully fishing gets better as we move further into the season.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had some good fishing for those that came out of the cabin on today’s trip.  There were some stud sea bass and some cutlassfish that came over the rail for those that could put in the effort.

Shewwww.. After laying in yesterday (and painting!) because safety was a primary concern for a long time group that often brings many children; I Iooked at a lot of different forecasts for today. Those forecasts all dropped the wind speed down a bit & that was the “Lets Go!” signal..
Fishable? Yes.
Easterly in a not-calm way – wasn’t disastrously rough either. About half today’s clients wish they’d read the upper section of any fish report (& a new one soon!) – the part where It’s Simple To Prevent Motion Sickness, Difficult To Cure. Bonine seems best because it’s non-drowsy. Truly cheap & effective insurance.
Honestly – If you get to go on the ocean once a month, once a year or even less; why risk chumming all day? Similarly, if you howl at the moon all night, chances are good you’ll howl into a bucket all day.
I don’t think there were any hangovers. Dern sure half of em were unprepared for a small easterly set though.
It will always be so I reckon.
Thomas from Harford County did the deed on today’s blocks. After he dropped twenty reef blocks at Tyler’s Reef we pressed on.
Not the day of sea bassing anyone had hoped for. There’s evidence of bait – sand lance & krill in stomach contents. Cbass appear healthy. I expect there’s some funny business going on though and it ain’t wind surveys (though it is related to surveys that ended in 2015)..
George from Greenbackville, VA (a tiny coastal-bay oyster boom town from back in the day) pocketed the pool money. A good fish, but not a jumbo. A couple fellows were within spittin distance of limits when I pulled the plug on our day.
Captain Victor Bunting on the party boat Ocean Princess had a good haul on today’s trip and hopes that the trend continues moving forward.
Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break showed these junior anglers a great time putting them on some snapper bluefish and a keeper flounder.
Shaun Flaherty and Big Bird Cropper caught and released some schoolie rockfish and caught their limit of bluefish at the route 50 bridge this afternoon.
Marsha Oats was practicing for the Joe Morris Memorial Canal Flounder Tournament today and landed this 3.34 pound flounder using the Deadly Tackle Double Trouble in chartreuse.  Weighed at Lewes Harbour Marina.
