I don’t get to put those words together too much, but when I do it is really nice. Today truly was a beautiful day both inshore and off and the fishing was really good with blue marlin, white marlin, tuna and mahi offshore, and flounder, sea bass, sharks, black drum and sheepshead inshore. I’ll never get tired of reports like tonight’s!
Today was day one of the Ocean City Marlin Club’s Canyon Kick-Off Tournament and anglers were met with good sea conditions and good fishing. Here is the leaderboard after the first day of fishing.
There have been some really nice bigeye tuna being caught the past week or so and today Captain Joe Drosey of Rhonda’s Osprey was able to find a good one. Captain Joe put his crew on a gaffer mahi, a yellowfin tuna and a 128 pound bigeye tuna that “thumped” the deck coming on board.
The Bilman HVAC Group had a beautiful day on the MARLI with Captain Mark Hoos and mates Michael Butler and Chase Neiderer. They boxed eight nice yellowfin tuna and a gaffer mahi, and also released a white marlin. Captain Mark also reported that the weather was FANTASTIC!
Captain Scott Stapleford of the All In had a good day going three for six on yellowfin tuna and adding 10 mahi for good measure.
The Spring Mix II had regular customer Tim Gibble and his grandson Marshall Breen on board today for some offshore fishing and had a good day putting two good yellowfin and 15 mahi in the box.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star reported good fishing today over ocean structure. Here’s Alexander Pike/Angelina Espinoza of Balt with nice sea bass, George Steiger of Belcamp, Md with a pair of fluke and Nick Ferrara & Son with a catch of good sea bass. Captain Monty also reported that he is a “deckhand wanted” on the Morning Star so if you or someone you know is interested you can stop by the boat at the Ocean City Fishing Center or email Captain Monty at [email protected]
There has been some good inshore ocean and jetty fishing lately and the Fish in OC inshore charter fleet is all over it. Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service had a great day today on the jetty with some great action for sheepshead, black drum and small shark.
Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run Charters was on the jetty as well at some point this morning and his fishing was good as well. Captain Dave put his crew on some keeper sheepshead and a nice black drum. This evening Captain Dave was back at it and put one happy angler on a nice 10.4 pound sheepshead.
The Bad Influence with Captain Jeff Coats was on the ocean for two trips today where he had fantastic catch and release shark fishing action. This morning Camden and Luke Coleman from Ohio joined their dad Noel for some steady action with Atlantic sharpnose, sandbar and spinner sharks all caught on false albacore chunks. This afternoon it was Griffin and Jocelyn Lane with their Mom, Dad and Grandfather who was celebrating his birthday late. They fished until Griffin had 12 which was pretty quick considering the action. Captain Jeff put his crews on 23 sharks total today.
Captain Chase Ebele of Chasin’ Tides Charters finished up his nighttime shark fishing trip last night with some more shark release action including a BIG 97″ sand tiger shark. This evening Captain Chase was able to get out again and he put his anglers on a kingfish, two keeper sea bass and 19 nice triggerfish.
Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing with Captain Marc Spagnola was at it again today putting shooters on some good action for southern stingrays in the south bay.
