We had a nice, warm day on DelMarVa today with light winds and warm temps. There was some cloud cover throughout the day, but it didn’t rain so it was no big deal. The first flounder of the OC season was caught this morning, followed by a few more so the fish are definitely in the bay.
I traveled down to Chincoteague, VA today to shoot a new episode of Hooked on OC with Captain Brian of Y Knot Fishing Adventures and we had an awesome day. We had about 10 throwback flounder and 5 keepers from 16.5″ to 18.5″ fishing 3′ to 7′ of water. I had my first keeper flounder of the 2025 season on Deadly Tackle Deadly Doubles in chartreuse and white.

I had a feeling that the first flounder of the OC season would be caught today or tomorrow and my hunch was confirmed at about 10:30 this morning. Rick Gorsuch was fishing the Thorofare with Paul Musser and Paul Musser, Jr. this morning when he landed this 18.25″ keeper flounder fishing in about 5′ of water. Rick caught the first flounder of the season on a Deadly Tackle Deadly Double in pink with a white Gulp. Congratulations Rick!

Just about an hour later I got a text from Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters with the first photo below and the text, “first drift.” I texted back that he was about one hour late for first fish of the season and I got back, “LOL.” Captain Jason may have just missed the first flounder of the season, but he did manage two more keepers and a couple of throwbacks in the south bay for his anglers today.

Noah from Kohr’s Outdoors and Avery caught a keeper rockfish on an X Rap and a keeper tautog on a Deadly Tackle tog jig while fishing the route 50 bridge this evening.
