Flounder, Sheepshead, Mahi and Marlin

Flounder, Sheepshead, Mahi and Marlin

We had a nice day today in Ocean City, but the wind certainly picked up this afternoon in front of a system that is going to push through the area and mess our fishing up again.  The offshore fleet was able to get out today, but it was a bumpy ride home and it looks as if the next few days the wind will blow and have the ocean closed for business.  The bay water has cleaned up a little allowing some flounder to be caught, but rain the next few days could mess that up a little too.  There are some sheepshead being caught around the jetties the past few days and they aren’t as dependent on clean water so I might have to take a trip and drop a couple of sand fleas down this week.

There is some really terrific mahi fishing going on right now out in the canyons and today was another good day of it.  Captain Franky Pettolina of the Last Call had a good day out in the canyon today putting his crew on two white marlin releases out of two bites and a bunch of mahi for the box.

Captain Jeremy Blunt of the Wrecker had a good day out in the canyon today putting his crew on another good day of mahi fishing with several nice fish for the freezer.

It was a literal box full of mahi for the crew of Spring Mix II with Captain Chris Watkowski and mate Ayrton “The Kayak Kid” Pryor as they had no more room to put another fish after today’s trip.

I love it when kids get in on the offshore action so I was excited to see 5 year old Nathan Bohlen catch and release his first ever white marlin yesterday.  Nathan was fishing with his dad Shawn on their JEB in the Washington Canyon where they also released three other whites.

Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported a nice mixed bag of sea bass, bluefish and triggerfish while fishing over ocean structure on today’s trip.

Captain Willie Zimmerman of the Absolut Pleasure took his boys fishing with Captain John Prather and mate Austin on Ocean City Guide Service today where they had a great time catching 8 flounder with 1 keeper, 2 sheepshead, 1 rockfish and a bunch of throw back sea bass.

Jamie McKenzie of Hagerstown, MD, Jay Batcha of Macon, GA and Morgan Lally of Pine Grove, PA display today’s keepers from the Tortuga with Captain Drew Zerbe and mate Serge Gardner.  Morgan’s was largest at 18 1/2″, 2 lb. 8 oz and caught on a squid and shiner combo.

Big Bird Cropper caught this 19 1/2″ keeper flounder today while fishing in the CBSFA Flounder Tournament.

Betsy Berry sent this photo in of her husband Tom “Bluefish” Berry who caught this 17″ keeper flounder and released another 18 fish on Friday while fishing the route 50 bridge.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing got to get out and do some shooting recently and had some good success.  Captain Marc put his night crew on some good cow nosed action and his lovely daughter Alivia shot a monster 83 pound southern ray.

Update from Blume’s Balloon Round Up as we close in on the end of the contest.  Emily and Joshua Blume have had 1,312 balloons called in after being pulled out of the ocean smashing their goal of 1,000 for the season.
