We had another beautiful day to fish in Ocean City and offshore in the canyons today. There was more of a swell from the south offshore as hurricane Jose’ moves closer to our area, but overall it was very nice. Jose’s direct path is obviously uncertain, but his projected cone now has Jose’ off of our coast sometime Monday into Tuesday.
The forecast for Monday is for winds of 20 30 knots and seas of 10 – 16 feet. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that if that pans out offshore fishing will be shut down for Monday, Tuesday and probably Wednesday, but Jose’ looks like he scoots out of here pretty quick so hopefully he stays offshore and we’re back in the deep later in the week.
The fleet was back in the deep today and fishing was a little better than we saw yesterday. Captain Joe Drosey of Rhonda’s Osprey had a great day putting his crew on two white marlin releases and two stud wahoo of 55 and 60 pounds.
Captain Luke Blume and mate Jon Henry of the C Boys found a nice yellowfin tuna and 10 mahi while trolling the Poor Man’s Canyon today.
There are a bunch of mahi off in the canyons right now and Captain Jeremy Blunt of the Wrecker found a big old pile of them today.
Ocean bottom fishing was good today for Captain Chris Mizurak and the crew of the Angler. Anglers on the Angler caught some nice sea bass, keeper flounder and some big triggerfish.
Captain Victor Bunting of the Ocean Princess reported a good day of weather and fishing today with sea bass and flounder up to 24″.
Flounder fishing in the back bay has improved over the last couple of days thanks to the water cleaning up. This keeper ate the wrong bait under the Ocean City Guide Service with Captain John Prather at the helm.
I got this Facebook submission from Tim Bunting with the report, “Holy Sheepshead!” and this photo of his wife Kelly. Kelly also caught tautog and triggerfish on the trip.
