Good Floundering and Bluefishing Continues

It was an absolutely beautiful day today in and around Ocean City…..once the fog burned off!  The day started with some pretty thick fog in spots, but it was gone by early afternoon and we were left with sunny skies, warm temps and a slight breeze that kept things from getting too warm.  Today was my birthday so you know I went fishing, and my wife Kristen and I had another good day at the office.

It was foggy over the Thorofare this morning which kept things cool, but the water was nice and clean and in the upper 50s so I was pretty certain the flounder bite could be good again.  My wife Kristen and I fished from about 9:30 until about noon and used Fish in OC Deadly Double rigs with 5″ white Gulp swimming mullet to round up 8 throwback flounder and two keepers.  Both chartreuse and pink DD rigs were successful at attracting fish, but the two 16 3/4″ers that we boxed were both caught on pink.  It was a great birthday trip on the water with my better 1/2!

While we were fishing we got a FB message from John Clayton from Queenstown, MD saying that, “Your Deadly Double did the job, 19″ in the box.”  A few messages later John had completed his trip and had keepers of 19″, 17″ and 17″ all caught on chartreuse Deadly Double rigs with 5″ white Gulp swimming mullet that he purchased from Atlantic Tackle just this morning.  I love it when I hear results like that!

Captain Wayne Blanks of Bayside Guide Service was in the Thorofare this morning and was able to find some fish.  Captain Wayne and brother Eric had two throwback fish and two keepers at 17 1/2″ and 19″.

Yesterday Justin Staats fished the Lewes Canal and had three nice keeper flounder on Fish in OC Deadly Double rigs in pink with pink Gulp swimming mullet.

Don’t forget about our Doormat Derby season long flounder contest out there!!  First place is under three pounds and we are paying three places and a junior division.  You just have to weigh your fish at one of our five weigh scales: Atlantic Tackle, Ocean City Fishing Center, Bahia Marina, Oceanic Pier and Fenwick Tackle.

Bluefish were snapping around the route 50 bridge and inlet area again today!  Jordan Helsel caught his limit of blues this afternoon while casting from his kayak.

Captain Marc Spagnola of Dusk to Dawn Bowfishing had the bows in the truck to take a great group of kids out this afternoon.  Captain Marc had the kids casting and having such a great time with shad and snapper bluefish that they lost count.
