It certainly was beautiful on land today with sunny skies, awesome temps and no precipitation. There was a pretty good breeze however, and that made things tough in the ocean. There were still plenty of fish caught on an awesome Labor Day Weekend so far.
Captain Chris Miller and his crew on the private boat Fishizzle had an awesome day with a real nice wahoo and a pile of mahi.
Captain Mark Hoos and the crew of MARLI have had some awesome fishing lately. This day produced three white marlin releases and a pile of tilefish.
The crew fishing on board the Boss Hogg had a great day offshore with 13 white marlin releases.
Captain Dale Lisi and his crew on Foolish Pleasures had another day of good fishing with a mahi and tilefish for the fish cleaners.
Captain Dave Caffrey of On the Run has had some awesome August fishing inshore with sea bass, flounder and a bunch of sheepshead at the south jetty.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star reported lousy conditions, but good fishing with sea bass and some nice triggerfish.
I bet there’s plenty of folks would like a word with the weatherman this day. Ten to Fifteen North was actually Fifteen to Twenty.
Had the wind direction right at least.
We rocked and threw spray on our way off, stopping long enough to make a slow, down sea pass on a reef we’re nourishing with blocks and pyramids. Was a great deployment by Josh & Greg.
From there a long run off to a little hang few others have found. Well, loggerhead sea turtles certain have. There was a youngster and an old timer loaded with barnacles there today. I’ve found two great pieces by slowing down for a look where loggerheads were. Have several “Turtle Wreck” notations from old log books. They feed on crab and lobster – maybe mussels? And, if in a cold shock on the bottom? Well, I would think if divers can hand pick their sea bass and put em in a bag, then turtles can take advantage of that rare situation as well. As we saw a good bit this summer, it can be incredibly colder on the bottom while in the low eighties on top…
Man was it good fishing. Thought we’d catch some fluke too – triggers were instead today’s bonus fish.
Great bite in lousy weather. I hope all the bluewater anglers have a similar result this day. Likely right nautical off there.
Craig took the pool and was first to bag a limit. He was followed by Bob, Holly & Ron. I’m sure there were other limits too; but in combined coolers it’s hard to cipher. No worries though. Lots of fish aboard!
Cheers,
Monty
