Happy 4th of July Everyone!!
I just returned from watching the Ocean City fireworks display from the Fish in OC Carolina Skiff and I have to say it was a most enjoyable experience. It’s a little muggy tonight, but it was cool to watch the fireworks with the family. I hope you all enjoyed your shows!
It was an absolutely beautiful day offshore today with little to no wind and slick calm sea conditions. The tuna fishing was hit or miss with boats to the south doing a little better than boats that ventured to the north, but nobody really set the world on fire. There were lots of one tuna catches, a few zero tuna catches and very few multiple tuna catches.
Captain Chris Watkowski and mate Ayrton “The Kayak Kid” Pryor had a very good day all things considered. Captain Chris had Will Freng and his buddies out today and put them on some good fishing to the south. The crew ended the day with some skippy tuna action, one mahi and three nice bluefin tuna on trolled ballyhoo and spreader bars.
Check out Captain Chris talk about his day in this Ocean City Fishing Center Daily Catch video.

The Boss Hogg with Captain Brian Porter had a good day of tuna fishing today as well. Captain Brian put his anglers on three nice tuna including an over 47″ bluefin and some mahi.
Corey Huber submitted this shot of he and his crew who caught a couple of mahi and a nice mako today. Fish were weighed at Atlantic Tackle in West Ocean City.
I got a Facebook message from Brian Brannan reported slow fishing at the Hot Dog like most others reported so he picked up and trolled the Baltimore Canyon for this nice 50 pound yellowfin.
The ocean was flat calm today which made conditions really nice for the ocean going party boat fleet. Captain Chris Mizurak of the Angler reported awesome conditions and pretty good fishing with some sea bass and flounder over two pounds.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star reported some sea bass coming over the rail today as well. These anglers traveled from as far away as Portland, OR and San Diego, CA! “That’s a long way to catch a sea bass!”
Captain Luke Blume of the C Boys offshore fishing charter was bottom fishing inshore again today and put his crew on the meat. Captain Luke had mate Jon Henry, Christina Alo, Joshua Blume and Emily Blume on board today and put them on six keeper flounder on Gulp baits. Mate Jon Henry caught the biggest fish that was 4.5 pounds.
Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service was on the bay today for a busy 4th of July holiday where he put these ladies on a couple of big “chopper” bluefish.
My buddy Albert Purdy took a day off from spearfishing and enjoyed a morning in the bay with his father Albert V. Purdy. He caught his first keeper of the summer 17 1/2 inches and they collectively threw back 9 smaller flounder. Albert reported foggy conditions, but an awesome time fishing with his dad catching a keeper flattie.
We decided to drop a couple of Gulp baits behind Assateague before the OC fireworks show and once again my wife Kristen showed me up by catching the only fish of the evening. This throwback ate a 5″ white Gulp behind Castaways Campground. My goofball son Ryan seized the opportunity for a photo op….. I’m not sure where he gets it.
