The cool down the weather man predicted for today didn’t happen until late this afternoon. We were supposed to have temps in the 70s all day today and I’m pretty sure while I was shooting a segment at Ocean Pines Golf and Country Club for Hooked on OC it was 90 degrees. After the wind cranked for a while out of the north it cooled down pretty nicely for this evening. If you were able to get out for some flounder fishing on the high tide you might have had some pretty good luck, and if you were offshore fishing for tunas you probably had a really good day. The offshore charter fleet is experiencing some ridiculous tuna fishing right now with nice bluefin tuna action with bigeye and yellowfin tuna in the mix. Some boats are releasing an additional 30 or more fish after they have reached their limit of bluefin and like I said, that’s ridiculous.
Captain Jeremy Blunt on Wrecker out of the Ocean City Fishing Center had a great day of tuna fishing boxing four bluefin tuna and three yellowfin tuna.
The Marli with Captain Mark Hoos had another stellar day in the ocean catching his clients a limit of bluefin tuna and a nice yellowfin tuna.
The crew of Spring Mix II with Captain Chris Watkowski and mate Ayrton “The Kayak Kid” Pryor caught a limit of bluefin tuna and one mahi and released an additional 11 tuna. The largest bluefin weighed in at 93 pounds.
Captain Michael Burt on the Pumpin’ Hard had a great day out in the canyon today catching a limit of bluefin tuna, one yellowfin tuna and a mahi and also released another 25 bluefin.
Captain Joe Drosey on Rhonda’s Osprey out of Sunset Marina boxed three under bluefin and released another 23 fish.
The Talkin’ Trash with Captain Chris Little had an insane day of tuna action today boxing three bluefin tuna and two yellowfin tuna and also releasing more than 30 bluefin.
Captain Monty Hawkins of the party boat Morning Star had some good sea bass come over the rail today. Here the Gries family of Friendship, MD displays of their sea bass put to 18″.
The ocean going party boat Ocean Princess has had some good fishing recently putting customers on some good sea bass fishing with some flounder and tautog in the mix.
Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service put a young angler on a huge 12 pound bluefish on a Z Man jig at the route 50 bridge this afternoon. Captain John’s mate for today was his lovely wife Amanda.
Lucky Break Charters with Captain Jason Mumford had some good fishing at the route 50 bridge this morning boxing 14 snapper bluefish and releasing several shad on the incoming tide. This afternoon it was a trip to the west channel where he put his young anglers on two nice keeper flounder.
Captain Brad McCabe of Baytime Charters put Denny Kroger from Ocean Pines on a 19 1/2″ and 17 1/4″ keeper flounder near the Thorofare. On the way to taking Denny back to the Pines (part of the service) they decided to make “one more drift” at a favorite spot and added a 20 inches to the cooler…..not pictured.
The Tortuga with Captain Drew Zerbe had lady luck on board today. Ladies won the fish pool on both the morning and afternoon trips. Madison Mohr of Baltimore, MD caught her first ever flounder this morning on a squid and shiner combo to win the fish pool. The money winner was caught in the Thorofare with mate Serge Garder on the net.
Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing wasn’t on the water today, but he did catch a “five finger flounder” in his crab pot. The fish was released unharmed.
