Today started off ok, but is ending pretty crappy. A front moving into the area is bringing wind and rain through tomorrow and there is a small craft advisory through Thursday morning. The weather will definitely put a damper on fishing interests for the next couple of days, but next week’s forecast looks awesome right now so I’m sure that anglers like myself will be out in full force.
Over the past several days small rockfish have made an appearance in the back bays of Ocean City and there are A LOT of them. The guys at the Oceanic Pier got out last night and absolutely mugged them. Bear sent the following pictures with the report that he and the crew caught “hundreds”. The fish are no bigger than 22″ right now and most of them are in the 15″ to 18″ range. There might not be any keepers in the mix, but if you’re looking to have some fun you can catch a fish (or two) on just about every cast.
It’s trophy rockfish season over on the Chesapeake Bay and Fish in OC charter partner Marli with Captain Mark Hoos and mate Mark Stephens are over fishing out of Solomon’s Island. Yesterday the Martin family caught a couple of BIG rock when they landed these fish of 50″ and 51″.
Pat Murphy was fishing over on the Chesapeake Bay as well when he landed this 43″, 36.5 pound rockfish over the weekend.
