Sea Bass, Flounder and A Surprise October Mahi

Sea Bass, Flounder and A Surprise October Mahi

It was a little chilly this morning and a little windy this afternoon, but overall it was a nice fall day in and around Ocean City.  Tomorrow and Sunday look very nice with light winds so I’m hoping that we’ll see folks out on the water catching some fish.

I had the opportunity to head out on the Angler today with Captain Chris Mizurak and mate Steve for their first trip back after a long summer of “technical difficulties” and it was an awesome day to be back.  I personally had 13 keeper sea bass and three keeper flounder up to 20″ and there were lots of other fish around the rail.  My buddy Mike Dzurnak caught his personal best flounder of 24″ and almost 6 pounds, but even that was no match for the fish pool winner.  Johnny was lucky enough to catch one of a couple of rogue mahi that randomly swam by the boat early afternoon and was skillful enough to get the fish to the net.  It was a very nice mahi at just under 16 pounds and it took the fish pool easily.  This should make for a great new episode of Hooked on OC next month.

Ryan Ellerman of R.E. Appraisal caught this nice slot rockfish of 30.5″ on a 5″ shad from the route 50 bridge last night.
