Smoked Again

Smoked Again

It was a gorgeous day in and around Ocean City today with very warm temps, sunny skies and light winds….to start.  The wind did pick up this afternoon which made our ride south pretty bumpy, but thanks to my wife we had some fish in the box and I got some great reports from others as well.

The fishing gods are certainly treating my wife Kristen well to start off the 2019 fishing season.  She catches her first pacific sailfish and about a 50 pound mahi on our trip to Costa Rica last month, she follows that up by catching the first keeper flounder of the Ocean City season a few weeks ago and she continued the roll today by throttling me once again on a flounder trip to the Thorofare this morning.  We couldn’t pass up the beautiful weather so we decided to go right back where David Wells and I had a few fish yesterday and Chef Mikey from the Ocean City Marlin Club caught his limit up in the Thorofare.  Honesty we weren’t too excited when we first got there as the water was brownish thanks to the runoff finally making the bay from last Friday’s deluge, but conditions otherwise were just beautiful so we decided to fish regardless.  We bump trolled Fish in OC Deadly Double rigs and Kristen’s chartreuse DD with 5″ white Gulp swimming mullet combo did the trick again and she nabbed keepers of 16 3/4″ and 22 1/4″ on her newly named “Flounder Killer” JPR rod.  The fish up there are definitely eating well as her smaller keeper spit up grass shrimp and the larger spit up a half digested bunker.  She did let me catch a 15″er right at the wire before we left, but to date she’s outfished me 3 keepers to 0 in two trips.  I taught her everything she knows.

Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing and his bride Karen had some fishing time together today down in Wachapreague, VA and they had some success as well.  Captain Jeff and Karen had seven throwback flounder, two keeper flounder and a nice 18″ weakfish that was caught on a Fish in OC Deadly Double as well.  Beautiful fish and great eating!

Big Bird Cropper and his buddy John fished the south jetty today where Bird put J0hn on his first rockfish of the season.  The guys also released another 17 rockfish and boated 5 bluefish all on Roy Rigs.

David Wells headed to a local pond this afternoon where he found the bass cooperating and landed this nice largemouth while casting chatter baits and took this weird skinny picture.
