Some Big Bluefish Have Arrived

Some Big Bluefish Have Arrived

It was an absolutely beautiful day on DelMarVa today with sunny skies and light winds and the temps in some places got to 80 degrees.  It was a great day to be on the water or even outside doing anything.

I mentioned in last night’s report that I was excited to be going fishing today with my good friend “Big Bird” Craig Cropper, but at the time I had no idea that we would have such an awesome trip with beautiful weather and some awesome fishing.  We left the commercial harbor at about 9 AM this morning and on the way out noticed some bird activity on the south jetty so we decided to check it out before heading to the 50 bridge for rockfish.  We fished the jetty with Bird’s Roy Rigs for about an hour and a half and found some reely nice “chopper” sized bluefish.  We threw two “snapper” sized fish in the cooler along with three big boys that will end up smoked fish dip at Crabs to Go in the next couple of days.  The blues were a ton of fun to catch on light tackle and Bird had a 31″er and I landed a big 33″ fish.  After the jetty we made a short run to the route 50 bridge and caught and released 14 short rockfish that were also fun to catch and all of the fish were fat and healthy.  It was a great trip with my buddy Big Bird on his Lost Time and should make for a great episode of Hooked on OC starting this Sunday.  Dave Messick of Hooked on OC hooked me up with some awesome pics!

Captain Brian Behe of Buffalo Hunter Guide Service was in Wachapreague, VA today with Paul Lebling and Ayrton “The Kayak Crouton” Pryor of Spring Mix II and he put them on some great flounder fishing.  The guys used Dale Timmons’ Deadly Double rigs and minnows to put five keeper flounder in the box and also released several other throwbacks.  I’m looking forward to my second filming of Hooked on OC in as many days as I head to Wachapreague with Captain Brian tomorrow where we’ll be joined by special guest Dale Timmons himself and cameraman Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing.

Captain Wayne Blanks of Bayside Guide Service was out at the 50 bridge today doing some casting with his wife Isabel and was able to put her on some nice catch and release action.  The couple had success with bluefish, shad and rockfish on a short trip.
