Thanksgiving Rockfish and Tautog

Thanksgiving Rockfish and Tautog

Now that we’ve reached the Holiday season fishing reports are going to be coming in fewer and farther between.  Days have gotten much shorter, daytime temps have gotten much cooler and fair weather fishermen are deciding that there are other things that they’d rather be doing.  There are still plenty of anglers that don’t mind bundling up to get out and catch their favorite fall species and there are plenty of those species around.

My buddy Steve Tapley is in town with his family for the Thanksgiving holiday and they’re from Bowie like me so they like to fish.  Steve’s brother Adrian purchased an awesome Century center console from our friends at Racetrack Marine this summer and they have been putting it to great use.  Steve will hit the north jetty, stinky beach or the route 50 bridge even if the boat isn’t an option and he’s having a great week of fishing so far.  Steve fished the north jetty and Martha’s Landing on one outing and had some short rockfish and one keeper tog caught by Ben Gurtshaw.  On another trip it was some throwback tog at Martha’s Landing and keepers for Maddy and Erin Tapley.

Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters was out today and he put laid the smack down on the tog.  Captain Jason fished the south jetty and Martha’s Landing and put his anglers on 7 keeper tautog and released another 80 fish…..yes 80!

Bear from the Oceanic Pier in downtown Ocean City got to bend a rod himself this afternoon.  Bear and his son Joshua caught a couple of keeper tautog from the pier and he also reported seeing some nice fish from the 2nd street bulkhead.

I’ve been getting a couple of emails and phone calls from folks that are coming down this weekend and wondering what kind of fishing they can do.  I know the Oceanic Pier is open this weekend and some of our inshore charters and party boats will be running if the weather permits as well.  You can check them out with the links below.
