The Calm Before the Storm

The Calm Before the Storm

It was down right nasty on land today in and around Ocean City, and by the time this afternoon had rolled around it was down right nasty off the beach.  Delivering magazines today it absolutely poured in Ocean City this morning and then it poured at home in Ocean Pines this afternoon.  It was not a very nice day.  Several boats cancelled today’s trips yesterday, but some decided to leave early and give it a shot trusting that the forecasted wind would start when the weatherman said it would this afternoon.  Conditions in the ocean, especially offshore actually started off very nice, but as predicted, turned to doo doo in the late morning and everyone headed back to the barn early.  The wind really starts to puff tonight and tomorrow so no one will be fishing the ocean and its doubtful anyone will even fish the bay.

Captain Austin Ensor and the crew of the Primary Search live by the credo that “Saturday’s Are For The Boys” so they will make every attempt to get fishing on Saturdays.  Today was no different so being that they had an escort boat that they could rely on the #gang left the dock at 3:30 AM, fished until about 10:30 and then headed home.  Captain Austin put the boys on two white marlin releases and 1/2 a dozen mahi before chasing some bigeye tuna that they saw airing out.  No luck on the tuna, but still a good day in the deep.

The crew of the Pumpin’ Hard with Captain Mike Burt and mate David Burt had a great day out in the deep fishing next to Primary Search when they went 7 for 8 releases on white marlin bites.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star also cut today’s trip off early because of the weather and offered everyone credit toward an upcoming trip.  Captain Monty reported holding bottom fine with 6 oz leads to start, but by the time they pulled anchor to come home they couldn’t keep a bait in place with 12 oz.  Even on the short day they had some good flounder fishing. Ron Peacock of Wilmington, DE won the pool with his 21.5 inch fluke caught on a Gulp/squid combo – also pictured are Katie, Tanner, Luke, Kara, & Doug Dresch; plus Sam & Josh Siminiskis all of Lebanon, PA – plus Stan & Brian Janczak of Baltimore, MD.

Captain John Prather of Ocean City Guide Service was able to get a trip in between rain drops today and it was a good one.  Captain John put this couple on three nice keeper flounder making it well worth the effort.

Joyce Hite Dodd of the Ocean City Maryland Fishing Community caught this nice sheepshead from the north bulkhead right next to the Oceanic Pier and Oceanic Motel.
