The weatherman nailed the forecast for the ocean today with N to NE winds about 5 – 15 knots and seas of 2 – 3’……SIKE! It was straight out of the northeast and every bit of 15-20 today, and seas got so bad that the Angler with Captain Chris Mizurak cut his day short due to “rapidly deteriorating conditions”. They did get a piece of the day in and had some throwback sea bass (season is closed) and some flounder action. Sarah caught this nice keeper flounder before they called the trip and headed back to the barn.
The wind didn’t reach offshore until this afternoon so boats that fished off the beach were able to get some trolling done before it got too rough. The Spring Mix II with Captain Steve Selander and mate Riley McCabe had a great day with the yellowfin tuna. Captain Steve fished the hot dog and put his crew on over 30 yellowfin tuna…..12 of them ended up in the box and another 20 were released to sea another day. This is a good sign for the offshore fleet as the white marlin will soon be leaving the area and the focus will switch to tuna fishing.
