Wachapreague Flounders

Wachapreague Flounders

I hear we had a kind of mixed bag of weather in and around Ocean City today with a cool, cloudy morning followed by partly sunny skies this afternoon even followed by some fog close to the water later this afternoon.  I say “I hear” because I was in Wachapreague, VA today where it was absolutely beautiful.

I had the opportunity to fish with Captain Brian Behe of Buffalo Hunter Guide Service today for our second shoot for Hooked on OC in as many days.  We made a great show yesterday with Big Bird Cropper catching some nice blues and rockfish in Ocean City, but today we were in search of flounder in the “Flounder Capital of the World.”  Dave Messick couldn’t make it so I had my good friend Captain Jeff Coats of Pitboss Fishing behind the lens and I had a very special guest along in my very dear friend Dale Timmons.  Dale and I have known each other since I first came to Ocean City back in 1991 and over the years we have become very good friends.  I just started flounder fishing with Dale in the past few years and as much as I’ve wanted him to, he’s never been in an episode of Hooked on OC…..well that changed today!  Dale, Jeff and I met Captain Brian at the Wachapreague ramp at 8 am and we fished and talked for the entire day.  We used a combination of Fish in OC Deadly Double rigs (which Dale designed) and some of Dale’s personally hand tied Deadly Double rigs with Gulp, shiners and minnows to put five nice keeper flounder in the box and release another 10 or so fish.  The Fish in OC Deadly Double in chartreuse was hot for me.  It really was an awesome day on the water with some great friends and should make for a great episode of Hooked on OC.  Big thanks to Captain Brian for the trip, Dale for coming along and Captain Jeff for filming for us!

Here in Ocean City it was a bluefish kind of day in and around the inlet.  Captain Jason Mumford of Lucky Break Charters put a pile of bluefish on the deck after fishing the bridge and inlet area and Donny Post, Michael Lorentz and Nate Dorezbach lined up a bunch of “snapper” blues after an “insane” bite at the route 50 bridge.
