Windy Enough To Kill The Game Plan

Windy Enough To Kill The Game Plan

It was a little windier and a little cooler than expected today, but it was still a good day to get out and do some fishing.  I hit the south jetty with my son Jack and had a good time with Deadly Tackle tog/bottom jigs catching tog, sheepshead and a blowfish.  There was also some action on the ocean where sea bass and some big triggerfish ended up in coolers.

Captain Monty Hawkins of the Morning Star had to change his game plan today, but he still ended up winning in the end.

Felt like too much air this morning. Was. Well, not brutally so, but windy enough to kill the game plan. Capt. Don did the deed on two half-stacks of reef blocks – our rough  water deployment. Dropped em on Uncle Murphy’s Landing Craft. (ahhh, ‘in’ the landing craft’s well I hope!)Promise.. All of Ocean City’s long time tog anglers who support our reef building efforts at ocreefs.org & have grandchildren — Their grandchildren’s children will know good tog fishing also.Better tog fishing. Incredible tog fishing if all goes to plan! And, if some patch of reef habitat is complex enough to support tautog? Everything else in our environs will pile on too. Ahhh.. Not unusual. We had a minor conflict with the weatherman this day. Collectively they said 15 knots early and diminishing. Was right – just off by 6 hours. As I was picking up the last anchor set to head for the barn, the wind fell out. A nice enough day – safe – inshore. Capt Don seized upon the reef builder’s karma to get into double digits first. No one limited. (Tomorrow’s long trip is supposed to be nearly slick calm giving (All Six!!) clients a far better shot. Believe it. I’ll fish as hard with 6 as sold out with 18…)At day’s end one of my favorite young ladies, Ms Mickey, had boated the pool winning cbass, while Mark took top trigger.. Speaking of Reef. Derned if Capt. Stormy and crew on the Tiki XIV didn’t make a midnight run down to Bear Concrete Reef. They deployed a load of pyramids made by (wild guess here…) Bear Concrete! Thanks Capt Nicky!! (Pics in a separate post)There were also 70 pyramids made by Roman in his Dad’s backyard.. Imagine that. A college kid needed some good guy credits and busted out SEVENTY pyramids BY HAND. I want to promise, that was some work.. Y’all don’t get a pitter-patter in your heart just yet for pyramid reefs. Takes a while, but their footprint is going to grow huge. In fact, Kinsley Construction’s Reef will be first over 1,000 (soon!) – come 5,000 – and then 10,000!!Acreage. Big Reef. That’s what’s needed to replace the natural reef lost on the Bass Grounds in the 1960s..Will have ‘Capt Monty’s Reef and Beef Spice’ on the boat. It’s good stuff – every bit sold builds reef. That makes it great stuff!  Promise. Trying to get the dadblame reef raffle going. Latest delay? Root canal.. How’d that go?Oyyyyyyy… Soon! Cheers!!Monty

Ryan Ellerman continued his tog killing ways today with another nice fish on green crabs.

Flounder fishing in the back bays is GOOD right now….check it out and Subscribe!!
